3 Rivers & 3 valleys
South of the department, the Lot Valley. Its course is capricious, carved shots meandering meandering through the vast limestone plateau: the famous loops or cingles Lot. It is bordered by high cliffs where the perched village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. In the north, the valley of the Dordogne through the department of fifty kilometers. This is the Valley of Wonders, with its proud castles, Castelnau-Bretenoux Montal and exceptional villages such Carennac. Parallel in the Lot Valley Cele has nothing to envy. This tributary of the Lot is also its replica in miniature of the cliffs, charming villages and a major prehistoric site: the cave of Pech Merle.
The plateaus or plateaux, land moors and forests of small oaks, sprinkled dry stone constructions are part of the territory of the Regional Natural Park of the Quercy. The department has four.
